Smoking impact images to appear on UK cigarette packs
Smoking impact images to appear on UK cigarette packs
The government wants to shock smokers into quitting by putting graphic pictures of the damage caused by smoking on cigarette packs.
The new images show rotting teeth and lungs, throat cancer and a 'flaccid cigarette' – the "grim reality" of the effects smoking can have on health, as chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson says. picked by bingo 1 year ago

It's interesting...They won't just ban them.

I don't think that the pics will make a difference to most people, sadly. It's like the anti-drug campaigns that show the post-meth addicted people. It won't make a difference to many.

Why can't people just smoke if they want to smoke?... I don't smoke, but i'm pretty sure that most people who oppose smoking would get extremely angry if their alcohol or favorite fatty food was banned. We know by now that this stuff is bad for us. This isn't the 1800's when we thought cocaine was therapeutic and opium medicinal. We know pretty much what will kill us and what won't. Ugh I get so tired of ads and laws trying to save people from themselves.
Furthermore.. the ad itself isn't entirely honest. Only about 10 percent of people who smoke their entire life develop lung or various other related cancers.

I don't smoke, so I don't know the feeling of a smoker.Sorry to smokers... but why don't they just stop making cigarettes just simple no cigarettes no smokers and those addicted to nicotine will just have to tough it out. The truth is cigarettes makes the producers billionaires so out of their pity to those people hooked they make up this ads blah blah blah just to wash their hands off the mess they made.

That is an extremely bold claim, which I will not even consider believing without a source, in fact, multiple sources.

I say skip the first part of that, and head straight to the second. Tobacco is so much more dangerous than weed, and our system is so messed up to not see it...

Also, have you investigated the costs on the health care system for dealing with people who are killing themselves slowly with cigarettes? I would be willing to bet money that it's more than the government makes off of them.

Nope... It's true. I looked it up before I posted it. And the reason I even said it was that I heard doctor "oz"" from oprah say it. I was shocked too..

"Nearly 90 percent of people who develop lung cancer are smokers, yet only about 10 percent of lifetime smokers will develop the disease. A recent study from the Public Health Sciences Division provides insight into one of the factors that may put a subset of tobacco users at increased risk of lung cancer."

I'm no longer a smoker, quit about 3 years ago so no loss for me. But I am tired of all the anti smoking claims that are made with no comparason to similar costs with other habits/addictions.

The health care costs are likely much higher from alcohol involved problems from medical care to accident victims. While you're at it include motorcycle drivers without helmets and drug use, rehab from alcohol and drugs ad infinitum.

Old age is also a huge contributor to health care costs. Lets not be focused just on the smokers.

You are definitely not wrong, and I do firmly believe that all of these things should be looked into, even age, though obviously not in the same way, since we can't just tell people to stop getting older...
