It is neigh impossible to open a airplane door at high altitude. The pressure difference keeps the door shut in planes. Go below 3000 feet and you might have a chance, but seeing this happened midflight, the altitude would be to high.

EXACTAMUDO! Airliner doors fail safe due to the pressurization. It's kind of like trying to keep helium from escaping by reading it sonnets.

This is good to know. I always have the temptation in the back of my mind when I see the signs telling me not to. Reassuring that if I ever succumb, nothing bad will happen.

Opening airplane doors that is. Not reading sonnets to helium. I do that all the time.
