It's amazing how many people don't realize that cell technology transformed wireless phones, and that portable phones and car phones weren't called cell phones until about fifteen years ago.

They still aren't called cellphones here in the UK.

They have always just been called a mobile phone or more often just a 'mobile'.

My first was a nokia 5110 with a Tigger cover.
