How powerful was the Apollo 11 computer?
How powerful was the Apollo 11 computer?
The computer used in the Apollo 11 must have been powerful, right? How much computing power was needed to take us to the moon. Far less than you think. picked by 2manyusernames 4 months ago

Relives memories of my first 8088 compatible computer with a whopping 512K of RAM. Yeah, 512K.

And I still own it.

It still amazes me that they were able to go to the moon using such primitive computing power.

They actually had the most complex computer ever used...the human brain. And they had slide rules.

The General Purpose Computer for the Shuttle has 1 Mb of RAM. Just as much as an IBM 5150.

Meh.

Computer power is a small factor. Programming is the biggest factor. No matter how powerfull your computer is, it is crap if someone programs s**tty software for it.

Great point. Back in the dark ages I did marketing support for the Micom word processors (and yes, that's my comment in the article). This baby could be programmed to do so many things. It was scary because people tried to use it for records keeping, financial analysis, etc., and it could do some of that, but not up to clients' expectations. I used to fight sales people all the time to manage expectations.
