Waiting For Guffman --- All four are done by the same group of comedians - you'll laugh 'til you wet yourself.
The Trouble With Harry --- An Alfred Hitchcock film - I love that man.
Harvey --- A film about a giant invisible white rabbit - funny and sweet, and Jimmy Stewart is perfect.

Thriller

North By Northwest --- More Hitchcock - really, I love everything he's done, including his TV show, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (each episode is essentially a 25-minute long Hitchcock film).

Drama - Swimming with Sharks - Excellent movie about movie people and just how ruthless and mean they can be. Twisty and delicious.
So I'm not the only person who's seen this one! Cool. I watched it when I was on my Kevin Spacey kick.

I second Ikiru. It's one of his lesser known movies, but it's a great story. Anyways, here's a few that I recommend.

Western: Once Upon A Time In The West, They Call Me Trinity, My Name Is Nobody

Comedy/Drama: Everything Is Illuminated, Punch-Drunk Love, Leon

Comedy: Arsenic And Old Lace, Play It Again Sam, The Birdcage, A Fish Called Wanda, Down And Out In Beverly Hills, Death At A Funeral, Ghost World, Les Visiteurs, Rushmore, Arthur, Defending Your Life, Tampopo, Crazy People, I Love You To Death

Drama: The Deer Hunter, Oldboy, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, What Dreams May Come

Bizarre/Indy: The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, Battle Royale, Pink Flamingos

FOREIGN FILM:

For those who don't know, The Criterion Collection is GINORMOUS!

The supplemental material in the DVDs is as important as their restoration work for film and HISTORY enthusiasts.

I'm interested in opinion from Spanish plimistas (or potential plimistas), or plimistas interested in Spain's (tragic and ancient) history, on historical prespective on these two rare, wonderful films:

Victor Erice's

The Spirit of the Beehive

and

Carlos Saura's

Cria Cuervos

For those new to Criterion, investigate the website. You can get a real education in the subject of film. The essays are wonderful and a good portal to the subject.

I've seen it too...not one of my favorites...but it wasn't bad.

My favorites:
Comedy: Undercover Blues.

Drama: Schindler's List
(although it was nice to see Good Will Hunting on the list...watch the bar scene for the back of my head)

Musical: Newsies

Animation: Cars (c'mon admit you watch them too)

Spoofumentary (I think I made that up): Canadian Conspiracy

Drama - The Girl With the Pearl Earring - Excellent, well done drama about the famous Vermeer masterpiece by the same name. Scarlett Johanson looks a lot like the painting, which makes it a teeny bit weird.

Comedy - It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World - DO NOT MISS THIS MOVIE!!! One of the best by far. The biggest star studded cast I've ever seen in any one movie. An oldie, but a goldie for certain. Madcap epic insanity that starts within the first minute and does not let up until the closing credits. 100% kid friendly, this is a fantastic family movie night flick. Don't let the 3 hour length scare you...it seems like its half that due to the nonstop craziness. Plus it has a certain well known trio appearing in it as well. :O)

Five stars.

If I recall it had soooo many more than five stars. At the time anyone who was anyone in comedy was in this movie (hence the appearance of the well known trio).

Thriller

The devil's backbone.

An excellent ghost story, one of the first of this century. Don't expect a horror film, it is at most a thriller, well, a ghost story needs some chilly moments, but it is basically more sad than frightful. There are several closely knitted plot lines building together to a cataclysmic end.

No...the five stars was a rating, not a cast count.

You see when a movie critic loves a movie very, very much and...ugh. Forget it. Go ask your parents.

Original was made in 1957 (Black & White).

The remake was done in 1997 for TV.

The original was better, but the remake was pretty good.
