Can Bing beat Google?

I think Bing (AKA Kumo) will beat Yahoo, but what about Google? Can Bing beat Google?
Bing differs from Google's search in that results are categorized. Like Google, Bing sells advertising space in the form of sponsored links displayed with each search.
Post your opinion please.

Kumo

Google has a LOT of momentum. It's going to be hard to overcome the societal meme, I think. Slick backgrounds, yay...the efficiency of the categories will be telling IF they can get enough people to use it.

I google night and day.
sounds far better than
I kumo night and day.

This kumo sounds more nasty somehow.
I hope they will stay with the name Bing.

I will try it but I think it will be difficult to make a change from something that works so well. Same goes for Chrome, it looks pretty does everything I want but it just isn't Firefox.

I don't think bing will have a chance against google.

I clicked the link and the first thing I saw was an ad for an Android phone.

That amused me.

Product placement.

Pay a couple dollars to have a tvshow or two refer to finding research on something as "Kumo-ing it".

"I ran the info through kumo and this is what I came up with..."

That sort of thing. Google alraedy has that. If they have a chance, that's how they'll have to do it.

If you turn it into a verb you'll have to use it very carefully.

The present tense if fraught with danger.

There's every possibility you'd end up encouraging someone to look up your image online by saying "Kumo my face."

And that could lead to awkward misunderstandings.

Given that I've already dropped it to the gutter I don't think this is such an inappropriate example but do you also think that in the world of adult entertainment scenes often end with a koom shot?

I think it's been long enough now to try and get this thread back on track with a little compare and contrast:

I think there might be a slight bias in the suggested searches available through Bing. Compare and contrast.

First of all, if you search for Linux using Google these are the suggestions you get:

If you do the same thing with Bing, it tries to steer you down a slightly different, MS-Centric path:

Does that make you trust Bing more or less?

Not a chance, Google has some of the best engineers in the world working for them, it'll be tough for anyone else to match their level of talent and search experience.

i think bing is being honest - that is what people have been searching for. i know i have searched for linux over windows a few weeks back.

google on the other hand is openly anti MS - not bad thing in some cases but not what i would like from an impartial search engine even if its politically correct
-----

ooh just realised that bing/ k is an MS product. no thanks likes google more - i'm prejudiced against most MS on the web - slow and podgy

We blocked Bing at work.

Too many backdoors that bypass our web filter for users to search porn while they are at work.

Bing is too new to even compare it to Google. Google gives the best results for keyword search. Give Bing some time to settle and show search results. I believe it is too early to comment on it.

Why? That doesn't really make sense - if it's not ready to go to market then Microsoft should not have made it available.

*waits while the laughter subsides and everyone picks themselves up*

Yeah, I know what history shows us, but if Bing wants to be taken seriously as a search engine it has to be able to stand up to Google.

Starting off at the back of the field is not an option.
