another workaround would be not to go to google to start a search but to have your own local html page that you use as your home page. added advantage - can insert your other favorite links in it too. I use g4 its just a simple web page with a form that submits to

Thanks, but the advantage I'm missing, is that in Chrome I search straight from the URL box, and not from the Google homepage. Google randomly decides to search from the country I'm in, instead of Google.com
you can define your own search then and point it to google
